Q1) What happens if i die without a Will in Singapore? |
A1) Your assets will be frozen. Monies cannot be withdrawn from bank account, Properties can’t be sold and securities cannot be dealt with. To gain access to the above mentioned, close relatives or next-of-kin must apply to court for the Letter Of Administration. |
Q2) How will my assets be distributed if i die without a Will? |
A2) Assets will be distributed according to Section 7 of the Intestate Succession Act. Upon acquiring Letter of Administration, the appointed administrator of the estate must follow the rules of Intestate Succession Act. Note : Intestate Succession Act does not apply to Muslims The distribution of property of a deceased Muslim domiciled in Singapore at the time of death is governed by Muslim law and the Syariah Court |
Q3) What if a long written Will can’t be found, presumably lost? |
A3) If a Will is lost it will be a invalid Will, the next-of-kin are required to apply to court for a Letter of Administration. |
Q4) What is a Probate? |
A4) Probate are granted to named executor in a Will. Unlike Letter of Administration which is usually granted to spouse or eldest surviving child in the absence of a Will |
